Carreg Cennan Rare Breeds Farm

The Land on which the Carreg Cennen Castle is built is part of Tir y Castell (Land of the Castle) Farm. It is a working hill farm with some 65 head of Pedigree Longhorn Cattle, around 300 Sheep, mainly Welsh Mountain Sheep but also some Balwens, Soays and Exmoor Horns. We also have 2 Welsh Cobs and various Poultry who like to roam the yard. We like to always keep some animals around for visitors to see when they visit the castle and tea rooms if you cant find immediately see any when you visit ask in the shop and we’ll point you in the direction of the nearest ones. During the summer months all the animals will be out at grass so your best chance of seeing them is on your way up the Castle. What we might call our claim to fame within farming circles are our Longhorns. Having kept these magnificant animals for some 20 years we have of late began to enjoy a little success in the show ring all over Britain. The summer show season now takes us to The Royal Highland in June, The Royal of England early in July, of course The Royal Welsh Show in Builth Wells towards the end of July, then into August for the Pembroke County and Monmouth Shows. From the farm we also sell some of our Longhorn Beef through a box scheme.
