The beach forms part of an extensive dune system that stretches eastwards to Talcre Beach (Point of Ayre) and to the west it links up with Barkby Beach. Gronant Dunes also known as The Warren beach is a protected site and deemed a SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) and the only surviving largely unmodified dunes along the North Wales Coast. The dunes are home to butterflies, natterjack toads, lizards and little terns among others. Marram grass, sea holly, pyramidal orchid and sea and portland spurge are some of the plants you will find on the dunes if you look carefully.
